6 oranges,washed thoroughly
1/2 gallon of sweet cider
1 bottle of Jamaican rum (1 pint)
Sugar to taste
Whole cloves
Cinnamon and nutmeg

Stud the oranges with whole cloves and bake them in the oven (350 degrees) until they soften. Place oranges in a chafing dish and pour the rum over them. Add granulated sugar to taste. Set fire to the rum; in a few minutes*, add the cider slowly to extinguish the flame. Stir in cinnamon and nutmeg to taste and keep the mixture hot.

*Note: The longer you let the rum burn, the less alcohol will be in the punch. For a more alcoholic brew, cover with chafing dish lid to snuff the flames.

This punch is one of my favorite Christmas memories. The fragrance of the baking oranges and the warming punch filled the house. The exciting part, however, was watching Mom or Dad ignite the rum!
